Brooches are curious pieces of jewelry… because they’re not worn on the body, but on your clothes. Freed from ergonomic constraints, brooches can be tiny or huge, abstract, figurative, neatly pinned to a lapel or dynamically styled between layers. Take your brooch out of that bulky scarf that’s stifling it! Show it off, and at the same time… YOU! too!
How do I wear my brooches?
Whatever the style of my brooches, I pay close attention to how securely they sit on the garment. That’s why you’ll usually find a double-pin fastening. The stainless steel pins are strong, flexible, and finely sharpened so they won’t damage fabric. Depending on the weight of the piece, you’ll want to pay more or less attention to the thickness of the fabric you’re pinning through.
How to do it: thread both pins through at the same time, keeping them parallel, then insert them one after the other into the hooks that form the clasp.
A styling tip: don’t hesitate to cover as much of the pin length as possible with fabric—it looks nicer since it hides them.
Wear your brooches your own way!
Of course, your brooch can be the go-to piece that holds your scarf in place… Of course, it can sit on a jacket lapel for a vintage-style look… But there are other ways to wear it, so find what works for you! Standing in front of a full-length mirror, wearing whatever you like, move the brooch around your chest—along the edge of a collar, as a bridge between two garments, to the left, to the right, in the center, at an angle, vertically, horizontally. Try it out! And when, without even thinking, the placement just feels right, you’ve found your spot!
