I created the “ELLES” collection from a custom project for butterfly-wing-shaped jewelry. It inspired these double-sided gold and silver pieces. I’m offering you three different earring shapes: “S” for slim faces, short cuts, an exposed neck; “M” for more structured faces with high cheekbones; and “L” for oval faces and long hair. Each time, the “ELLES” sit as a mirror on either side of the face and can be worn all-gold or in two-tone gold and silver, because the earring hooks let you change the direction of the drops. While the earrings are dynamic, I created the “ELLES” pendant in a more understated mood, like a swan at rest, wings folded. Worn on a 55 cm chain, it nestles against the body.
An innovative material: two-sided gold and silver
This “ELLES” collection makes the most of a beautiful material I order from a company specializing in gold and silver supplies and innovative materials for jewelry-making: mokume, lace-like metals, layered metals. What caught my eye was a two-sided gold/silver sheet. The “ELLES” collection showcases it especially well: for the earrings, the earring holder system lets you thread the drop on in both directions; the pendant itself is designed around the contrast between the two colors, gold and silver.
The “earring holder” system
I really like this system for earring drops. The earring holder is made up of a plate or a shaped element that decorates the earlobe, with a post soldered to the back. It’s shaped into a hook so it can slip into the lobe while keeping a small gap to thread on the earring drop, a hoop, or any shape you like. It’s practical: you can keep a single earring holder and switch the drop very easily—giving you so many earring options! If you’re worried about losing your earrings, it’s easy to add a small silicone stopper on the post behind the lobe. And it’s beautiful: the plate or decorative element of the holder sits slightly away from the lobe, so it doesn’t flatten it—the jewelry moves more freely. Examples?
